Last modified: 29. June 2022

The basic tasks of the Research Group of Ornamental Horticulture and Green System Management defined by the University are variety maintenance, gene conservation and variety breeding for the Hungarian ornamental plant sector and green area management. The goal of the research group is to produce and maintain ornamental plants that are well adapted to climate change and in line with the latest horticultural technology. The research group carries out related physiological, varietal and technological research and also participates in innovation research in cooperation with economic partners based on the needs of the sector. Our task is to provide a suitable research background for university education as well. Our main research areas are herbaceous annuals and perennials (including grasses for green roofs), as well as research on woody ornamental plants (with emphasis on Lagerstroemia) including garden roses and woody monocots. In connection with the cultivation of ornamental plants in greenhouses, we consider it our task to research and adapt the application of environmentally friendly technologies.
