Introduction

Three major themes of the academic curriculum are taught at our department. Courses in the history of garden art and heritage protection have a primary and special role in the foundations of the professions of landscape architecture and garden design. The historical periods of garden art – stylistic features, principles of spatial composition, and artists from ancient to contemporary times – are discussed through Hungarian and foreign examples, embedded in the natural, social and economic context of the given period. Our art teachers and landscape architect colleagues guide students in the field of graphic representation techniques, both freehand and digital. Last but not least, the third group is formed by the technical subjects. Formal possibilities and limitations of the used material are highlighted by the technical knowledge. Technical drawing and design graphics are the basic language for conveying the design ideas of landscape architects, in which artistic and technical criteria are expressed and given form together.
