Department of Landscape Protection and Reclamation

Head of Department: Dr. István VALÁNSZKI, PhD, associate professor

The Department is involved in a wide spectrum of the Institute's teaching: BSc, MSc in Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning, MA in Landscape Architecture (also in English), PhD courses. In addition to theoretical lectures, students can learn about planning, construction and management tasks related to landscape protection, landscape rehabilitation, nature conservation and environmental protection at municipal and regional level through professional and field practices. The Department believes in practical field work with local communities, with intensive student involvement and conscious communication: since its establishment in 1992, the Department has organised nearly 250 workshops in villages, small towns and national parks, in almost all parts of our country. A significant part of the workshops is carried out on the basis of long-term cooperation agreements with the organisations in charge of the field sites (e.g. Vác City Municipality, Szentendre City Municipality, Esztergom City Municipality, Duna-Ipoly National Park Directorate, Pilisi Parkerdő Zrt.).

Welcome

Welcome on the web-site of the first landscape protection department in Hungary!

The lecturers of our department have always been characterised by a student-centred, supportive approach, thinking and cooperating with local communities (local governments, NGOs). The experience of getting to know the landscape, the personal experience, the emotions connected to the landscape, the landscape identity are important in our approach. These traditions will continue to be a point of reference in the future, while at the same time we need to respond to rapidly changing challenges in education, research and participation in professional (landscape architecture) tasks.

Three strategic development directions have been identified: communication, international relations and the development of teaching methodology. We do this with enthusiasm and conviction, seeking opportunities, solutions and progress, because we believe in the usefulness of the landscape architecture profession, in particular its role in the socio-ecological-economic development of the landscape values. Therefore, we mainly aim to train and launch professionals with unique skills and competences, ready for unexpected challenges and teamwork, who are capable of development and ready to take up the profession of landscape architect.

Whether you have visited our site as a student or as a professional partner, we look forward to the opportunity to continue working and thinking together. Let's talk, let's find out!

We keep you up to date with the latest news from our department on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Tajvedelmi.Tanszek) and Instagram page (b_tanszek).

Activities

The Department of Landscape Protection and Reclamation, established at the same time as the Faculty of Landscape Architecture, Conservation and Development in 1992, is responsible for the organisation and teaching of a number of subjects in BSc, MSc, MA and PhD programs in Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning of the Institute. In addition to the theoretical lectures, the students will have the opportunity to participate in workshops in the fields of landscape conservation, restoration, nature conservation and environmental protection at municipal and regional level, in planning, construction and management. In addition to teaching, the Department also plays an important role in scientific work. Its staff carry out research on a wide range of topics, from methodological studies to practical applications. In addition to written publications and conference presentations, new findings are used in spatial planning, urban and landscape planning undertaken and produced by the Department, as well as in individual publications.
