Application for Specialization
(Information for 2026)
Dear Students,
Please be informed that applications for specialization can be submitted in the NEPTUN system starting from June 1, 2026.
The submission deadline is July 1, 2026.
Within the English-language undergraduate (BSc in Landscape Management and Garden Construction Engineering) program managed by the Institute (Program Director: Dr. habil. István Valánszki), students may apply for the “Landscape Management” specialization in 2026.
Landscape Management Specialization
Head of Specialization: Prof. Dr. Ágnes Sallay
The Landscape Management specialization primarily prepares students to carry out tasks related to the planning and development of both inner and outer areas of settlements, as well as groups of settlements. During the training, particular emphasis is placed on acquiring knowledge related to the management and maintenance of nature conservation areas, habitat mapping tasks, as well as landscape protection, landscape rehabilitation, rural development, tourism, environmental protection, and geographic information systems (GIS).
Throughout the program, we strive to ensure that students learn cooperation with clients and teamwork skills through the completion of real, up-to-date group assignments—skills that are essential for their future careers as professional engineers. Field-based knowledge acquisition also plays a significant role in the training.
The Department of Landscape Protection and Reclamation and the Department of Landscape Planning and Regional Development play a key role in delivering the specialization. Students may prepare their thesis on a topic offered by any department of the institute, meaning they may choose subjects at the scale of an individual site, a settlement, or a broader landscape.
General Conditions for Applying for the Specialization
In the Landscape Management and Garden Construction Engineering BSc program, students may apply for a specialization if, during the first three semesters of their studies, they have:
completed all compulsory subjects in the model curriculum (except for subjects worth 0 credits), as well as the weighted subjects prescribed by the launched specialization, and
achieved a credit-weighted cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5.
Conditional application for specialization is possible
– if the student has failed to complete only one compulsory subject worth at least 1 credit but has obtained the course signature for that subject.

The application for specialization takes place at the end of the fourth semester, and the deadline is determined according to the schedule for the given academic year as approved by the Senate.
The current academic schedule is available on the website of the Directorate of Education (https://ed.uni-mate.hu/; https://ed.uni-mate.hu/academic-year-2025/26)
Procedure for Applying for the Specialization
Preparation for Specialization, Placement Assessments
According to the curriculum, detailed information about the specialization application process and thesis research is provided during the 4th semester within the compulsory course titled “Preparation for Specialization”.
Students are required to prepare a portfolio, which is a prerequisite for obtaining the course signature for the “Preparation for Specialization” course.
Information about the preparation of the portfolio and further details will be provided by the Program Director within the framework of the “Preparation for Specialization” course.
Submission of a Request for Special Consideration
If a student has failed to complete only one of the compulsory subjects (worth at least 1 credit), but has obtained the semester signature for that course, she/he is eligible to apply for a so-called conditional specialization application. A condition of such application is that the student must submit a request for special consideration through the NEPTUN system, in accordance with Section 92 of the Academic and Examination Regulations (TVSZ), requesting permission to apply for the specialization. The request must be submitted prior to or at the same time as the specialization application. In other words, students do not need to wait for the decision on the request for special consideration before submitting their specialization application; however, the specialization application can only be evaluated after a positive decision has been made regarding the request for special consideration.
Application for the Specialization
Applications for the specialization must be submitted through the Neptun academic system between June 1, 2026 and July 1, 2026, under the “Requests” menu by submitting the request titled “ILAUG Application for Specialization, Academic Year 2025/26.”
Deadline for submission of the request: July 1, 2026 (Wednesday)
Evaluation and Announcement of Results
Applications for specialization are reviewed and evaluated by the Deputy Director for Education of the Institute, based on the specialization application requirements.
The Head of Specialization, or faculty members delegated by them, together with the Deputy Director for Education of the institute, jointly decide on the admission of applicants to the specialization or on the rejection of the application.
Applicants will be informed about the outcome of their specialization application through the evaluation of their NEPTUN request, which is expected in mid-July.
