Introduction
Our research group continues its research and innovation activities in the field of ornamental plant cultivation, use and green space management. Our research work covers ornamental plant breeding, research activities related to the production of propagating material and finished products, as well as all areas of modern and innovative green space management. Our research programs are determined by the close cooperation with our professional organizations, in the framework of which we have up-to-date information on the development issues affecting and necessary for the sector.
Our research areas cover all areas of the ornamental plant sector, research related to plant production in outdoor and indoor growing equipment, as well as all areas of green space management. In addition to the production of new plant varieties, we also participate in innovation developments in close cooperation with our business partners. As a participant in national and international research programs, we are associated with the work of other research workshops.
We continuously publish our research results in certified journals. Our researchers promote our results at scientific conferences and promotional presentations. The important basic task of our research group, which is also enshrined in the Basic Law of Hungary, is the preservation of the national genetic heritage, including the research and preservation of the genetic values of domestic ornamental plants.
The members of our research group participate in University education at several levels, both in the education of basic professions and in the programs of doctoral schools. We participate in the KUEP/TUEP program for the sake of academic supply and talent management.
We carry out our research activities in the following areas:
Ornamental plant breeding:
Production and maintenance of annual, perennial and woody ornamental plants
Gene preservation tasks:
Based on European Union directives, we participate in gene conservation activities, and within the framework of state gene conservation tasks, we maintain a rose collection. Maintenance of genetic material.
Plant ecology and physiology research:
Environmentally important research related to ornamental horticulture, stress physiology, micromorphology and plant physiology research, the effect of plant regulators on the plant organism.
Plant genetics research:
Mutagen effect testing, and ploidization and marker research.
Priority research topics:
Research of annual ornamental plants and perennial ornamental plants
Research on Cupressocyparis, shrubs with high decorative value, woody plants used in green space management
Morphological and colorimetric research of rose varieties
Botanical, morphological and taxonomic research of bamboos
